Phase 1: London Collaborative 2008-9

The London Collaborative’s first phase of work looked at future scenarios and challenges facing London over the next twenty years. This was significant in shaping the design of the second phase, working with public sector leaders to explore specific challenges and to build strategic capacity.

Through Seminars and workshops leading thinkers, managers from London boroughs, academic experts, and representatives from London- wide agencies came together to discuss pan-London pressures that require a unified response, and to explore long term solutions.  Our March 2008 report, The Collaborative City: Working Together to shape London’s Future, reflected analysis and thinking about the key challenges for London, and set the scene for involving stakeholders in discussions about the most productive areas for collaboration.  Future scenarios were developed by the Young Foundation and OPM, and were tested and refined by stakeholders and experts in a variety of workshops and seminars.

You can see the report , the data review, a full outline of the scenarios and discussion materials we used on our past events pages.

Workstreams

Over 2008/09 we worked with members of the leadership network, academics and other stakeholders to take forward some practical collaboration on four specific issues which London’s chief executives identified as important strategic challenges facing the capital over the next 15 years. These issues were: carbon reduction, worklessness in social housing, behaviour change and population flows. By April 2009, three of the four workstreams had developed a set of proposals which were handed over to Capital Ambition for detailed planning and implementation. The Behaviour Change workstream continues to be developed through the London Collaborative Programme.
